Campo Regio Relais is a luxury bed
and breakfast-style hotel based in an ancient building of
the historic centre of Siena,
the city of the Palio. The Relais
is situated in what was one of the main streets of Siena
during the Middle Ages, hosting both the University of Siena
and the Academy of the Intronati, whose former prestige is
still discernible nowadays trough the famous city library
which is close to the hotel.
The central position of the Relais allows guests to easily
reach the most representative places and monuments of the
city, as the main square, Piazza del
Campo, the Duomo's square
and the most important museums. Among them, one has to list
Museo Civico, where the famous
frescoes by Simone Martini ('The Maestà' and 'Guidoriccio
da Fogliano') and Ambrogio Lorenzetti ('The Allegory of Good
and Bad Government and their Effects on the
City and Countryside') are located; the Museum
of OPA, holding Duccio di Buoninsegna's masterpiece
('The Maestà); the Museum of Santa
Maria della Scala, containing the 400 frescoes by
Pellegrinaio, which illustraete the histiry of how the ancient
hospital of Santa Maria della Scala was created during the
MIddle Ages to give shelter to pilgrims visiting the city
and was generally devoted to charuty. Finally, the Pinacoteca
Nazionale is the location of those masterpieces dating
from the 1200 and 1300, Siena's golden age of art.
Campo Regio Relais is also
a great base from which you can explore towns and villages
in the siennese countryside, such as San
Gimignano, the Chianti area, Montalcino, the Crete area, Pienza
and Montepulciano, together with the most important
artistic cities of Tuscany, like Florence,
Pisa, Arezzo and Lucca. |
